CALL FOR PARTICIPATION – GUIDELINES

🎥COMPETITION CATEGORIES:

  • Fiction
  • Documentaries
  • Experimental Works (animation/music video/video art/short films/other)
  • War Reportage: “Gaze on Gaza”, where Gaza symbolically represents the whole Palestine

🎥 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maximum duration: 30 minutes
  • Film produced from 2018 onward
  • English subtitles

Submission Deadline: February 15 – May 15, 2024

The competition is open to films by Palestinian and non-Palestinian filmmakers dealing with political, historical, social, and/or cultural themes related to Palestine. Each filmmaker can submit a maximum of 2 films, one for each of the different competition sections. 

No submission fee required.

🎥SELECTION PROCESS

NAZRA committee will shortlist a selection of films, which will be judged by the International Jury, appointed annually and composed of prominent figures operating in the Italian, Palestinian and International artistic, cultural, and cinematic fields. NAZRA International Jury will declare one winning film for each category.

The winning short films will be awarded in Venice during the closing evening of the first leg of the Festival.  One of NAZRA’s main purposes is to ensure the circulation of the winning films, where possible, with the presence of the filmmakers, in various venues or cities. Further NAZRA events will be held in several Italian and European cities, as well as in Palestine. 

During the festival, Young Juries will also be involved as part of Nazra’s educational program in high schools and universities.

🎬POST SELECTION 

Filmmakers of the selected short films  will receive notification via email of their selection by May 31, 2024, and will be invited to submit the following documents to submission@nazrafilmfestival.com within 15 days:

  1. Downloadable participation form available here. The document must be signed and submitted in .doc/.docx or .pdf format with a handwritten signature;
  2.  Link for downloading the film (original version without subtitles) on Vimeo, YouTube, Dropbox, or another cloud platform;
  3. .srt file with subtitles in English and/or Italian;
  4.  One (1) photo of the director;
  5. Three (3) frames from the film;

The selected films list  will be published on the festival’s website.

🎬TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE  SELECTED FILMS

Selected films, if necessary, must be resubmitted, prepared for download:

  • Minimum HD resolution; 
  • Compatible format in a Windows environment (such as .mp4, .avi, .mov, etc.);
  • Ideally prepared in duplicate: one with English subtitles, the other with Italian subtitles; if providing Italian subtitles is not possible, please submit the video file without subtitles along with the .srt file containing English subtitles;
  • The films must not contain any type of advertising.

🏆AWARDS

During the opening night of the first leg of the Nazra Tour in Venice, the winners of each competition category will be announced. The best short film in each section will be awarded as follows:

  • Best Fiction 500,00 euro
  • Best Docufilm 500,00 euro
  • Best Experimental Work 500,00 euro
  1. Vittorio Arrigoni Prize for the “Gaze on Gaza” category: War reportage from Gaza and Palestine.
 


🎥PROMOTION AND  COPYRIGHT

Participants take full responsibility of the submitted contents and guarantee the respect of copyright on sounds and images by third parties (if any). Participants also grant the Festival the right to use images taken from their film and/or to screen their film for educational/cultural purposes and in non-profit events organized by NAZRA for promotional purposes.

NAZRA Palestine Short Film Festival reserves the right to publish images or short excerpts (no longer than 3 minutes) from the films in order to promote the Festival.

By accepting the above conditions, participants ensure the accuracy and veracity of all the information provided and authorize the use of their personal data for promotional purposes regarding the Festival (flyers, websites, press release, etc.).

Producers and directors of the awarded films are required to display the logo of NAZRA Palestine Short Film Festival in any promotional event they may attend, and specify the year and the name of the prize received.

All the selected works will, in any case, be added to the Festival archive.

The Festival Management may decide to invite the winners and directors or producers of the most interesting and deserving shortlisted works, covering part of the expenses.

    By submitting the entry form, applicants accept all the terms and conditions above. Failure to comply with the terms and conditions will result in exclusion from the competition.
